Scotland Offshore Renewables

Scotland Offshore Renewables

Scotland has adopted very ambitious and world-leading targets in respect of climate change, now enshrined in the Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009. The climate change agenda will help to promote new initiatives and innovative technologies to place Scotland at the cutting edge of the climate change evolution and to make it a centre of excellence for energy from renewable sources.

Energy Renewables

MacRoberts Energy Group is keeping pace with the rapid evolution in the renewables sector by focussing, and constantly evolving and honing, its expertise in Scotland's renewables potential, and current and future legal and commercial developments in this sector.

Our Energy Group combines expertise from a number of legal disciplines, including real estate, corporate and third sector structures, planning, environment, construction, health and safety, commercial contracts, and finance. This focus allows us to provide comprehensive solutions to clients. Actively involved in energy projects since the late 1980s when we advised Scottish Nuclear on the privatisation of the Scottish electricity industry, the Group now advises businesses from across the renewable energy sector on the commercial and regulatory issues and the climate change agenda generally. Our expertise extends to giving advice in relation to the full gamut of primary and secondary legislation, regulations, guidance and policy relating to all forms of renewable energy production.

Renewable Energy Projects

However, the Group also combines its legal expertise with commercial acumen and pragmatism, built on our experience in a range of renewable energy projects, including wind, hydro and energy from waste (biomass), across the UK, addressing all the relevant commercial and legal issues from the conception of a project through to its ongoing operation.

We advise on the acquisition, disposal and restructuring of existing projects at various stages of development, and have significant experience of resolving complex disputes. We also advise on regulatory matters, power purchase agreements, grid contracts and the panoply of other commercial contracts involved in such projects.

Increasingly renewable energy projects are being taken forward as community projects, demanding expertise in alternative business structures, including not-for-profit or charitable bodies and Community Interest Companies (CICs). We provide advice in relation to the flexible options which these structures afford and which structure to use in relation to specific projects.
